Discover the Joys of Living in Argyle, Texas
A suburb of Ft. Worth in Denton county, Argyle was one of the earlier communities in the area to incorporate, in 1963. In its first incarnations, the city was known alternately as Pilot Knob or Waintown.
Unlike many of its neighbors, the city saw limited growth during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, despite the Union Pacific building a railroad track through the area; in 1930, the town population was just over 200. The Great Depression took its toll, driving this number to less than 100 in the 1950s. However, today the town boasts a population of over 4000. It is known by the residents of the DFW metroplex as one of the suburbs that still retains a sense of authentic rural charm.
Despite its comparatively small size, Argyle offers a number of attractions to vistors. In 2015, the town opened the Yvonne Jenkins Memorial History Room, which maintains, preserves, and displays historical artifacts and documents from the area, many of which were provided by Kay Jenkins, daughter of former mayor Yvonne.
Those in search of Texas-style barbeque can visit Marty B’s or 407 BBQ, both of which maintain impressive ratings on google and Yelp. The 407 Gun Club provides a safe, clean environment for firearms enthusiasts to enjoy their pastime, and Reverie Farms and Soaps offers tours of its facilities. Sports fans can attend fall football games at Argyle High School, whose team won the UIL Division 1 State Championship in 2013, and whose much-lauded marching band is the proud recipient of six state titles.
Argyle’s growth is expected to continue with the growth of the greater DFW community. Residents and visitors alike celebrate the town for being the best of two worlds, with both its small town charm and its easy proximity to the big city amenities of Dallas-Ft. Worth.
