Discover the Joys of Living in Lewisville, Texas
With a population of over 95,000 and covering nearly thirty-seven square miles, Lewisville is one of the largest suburbs in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex; recent census informatin lists it as the 33rd most populous city in Texas. Lewistown traces its origin back to a community called Holford’s prairie, founded in the 1840s. Railroad lines built through the area spurred the area’s growth in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and Lewisville officially incorporated in 1925. Further expansion was encouraged by the construction of nearby Garza-Little Elm Dam in the 1950s; the dam expanded Garza-Little Elm Reservoir into what is now Lewisville Lake, a popular area attraction.
Lewisville manages its namesake reservoir, which offers 233 acres of shoreline replete with picnic areas, boat ramps, and hiking and biking trails. The lake is Texas’ official “Urban Bass Fishing Capital,” and provides anglers the opportunity to fish for not only large-mouth and striped bass, but crappie, catfish, and other species as well. The lake offers year-round access to residents of Lewisville and visitors alike.

The city is home to over a dozen venues which regularly host local and nationally known artists, including Sneaky Pete’s, The Pavilion, and the famous Lewisville Music City Mall. Every November, Lewisville puts on the Fall Fashion Fest, a gathering of pop-up boutiques which showcase the lastest fashion and home design innovations. In September, residents and visitors enjoy the Western Days Festival, an event celebrating Texas history and culture with children’s activities, a parade, and the World Tamale-Eating Championship.
